⚽ Copa América -- the biggest cultural moment in sports in the US
73% of US Latinos identify as soccer fans
Copa America is more than a sporting event – it’s a symbol of pride and unity for South Americans around the world – from Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and other countries — the tournament turns into a celebration of heritage and national pride.
Latinos are known to be passionate about soccer and remain the heart of the fanbase in the US. Copa America is a great opportunity for Latinos living in the US to see their national home teams and players.
At least a third of the fans in Major League Soccer stadiums are of Latin origin. This year Copa America is averaging 1.17 million viewers, which is up 45% compared to the 2016 tournament.
Hosting Copa America is a major boost for local economies. This is the second time that the United States is hosting the tournament after hosting the Copa América Centenario in 2016. The increase of international visitors leads to higher occupancy rates in hotels, increased patronage in restaurants, and bustling activity in tourist attractions.
The 2016 Copa America Centenario held in the US drew nearly 1.5 million fans, generating over $500 million in economic activity in the US. The 2019 Copa America generated about $1.1 billion in economic activity for Brazil.
Argentina is the defending champion. The final game will be played on July 14, 2024 with Argentina defending their championship against Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
