A company from Japan called TechMagic is bringing cooking robots to the United States. These robots are meant to help restaurants that are having trouble finding enough workers. Many restaurants in the U.S. are short on staff, and paying employees has become very expensive.
The robot is called I-Robo2. It can stir-fry food in a big round pan that turns and tilts. It also controls the temperature and adds the right amount of seasonings. Once the food is ready, it even cleans the pan. All workers need to do is put in the ingredients.
This robot can cook different types of meals like fried rice and chili shrimp. It can make about 30 meals every hour. That is a lot of food without needing much help from humans.
TechMagic started a company in Los Angeles in January. They are now testing the robot in American restaurants and stores. The robot needs a safety certificate before it can be fully used in the U.S., but it is expected to get that very soon.
For now, the robots will be made in Japan and shipped to the U.S. Restaurants can lease one for about $1,440 a month, and there is also a setup fee. TechMagic wants to sell over 1,000 robots by the year 2030.
The robots are already being used in Japan in restaurants like Osaka Ohsho and Ippudo. Workers there say the robots help a lot and keep the food tasting the same every time.
TechMagic’s CEO, Yuji Shiraki, says that the company is also thinking about selling the robots in South Korea, Australia, and Europe. He believes that many countries will want robots because hiring people is getting harder and more expensive.
