Meta is releasing a new pair of smart glasses in partnership with Oakley. The special model is called the Oakley Meta HSTN (said like “how-stuhn”) and costs $499. People can start preordering them on July 11. Other Oakley styles with Meta technology will go on sale later this summer and start at $399.
These glasses are similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. They have a camera in the front, tiny speakers near your ears, and built-in microphones. Once connected to a phone, the glasses let you listen to music, take phone calls, and even talk to Meta AI. The AI can describe what you are looking at through the camera and help translate languages.
Because they are made with athletes in mind, the Oakley Meta glasses are water-resistant and more durable. They also have longer battery life—up to 8 hours per charge, with a case that can recharge them for up to 48 hours. The camera is better too, now recording in 3K video instead of 1080p.
These smart glasses will come in five Oakley frame styles, with different colors like black, clear, brown smoke, and warm grey. You can also choose different types of lenses, including transition lenses that darken in the sun. The $499 limited-edition model comes with gold details and special gold PRIZM lenses.
The glasses will be sold in many countries, including the United States, Canada, the UK, France, and Germany. Meta plans to make a lot more smart glasses in the future.
Meta has teamed up with EssilorLuxottica, the company behind Ray-Ban and Oakley. Meta has already sold over 2 million Ray-Ban smart glasses, and now they plan to sell 10 million smart glasses each year by 2026.
