It’s official! The Sundance Film Festival is coming back to Mexico City in 2025. The event will happen from May 29 to June 1, and it will be held again for at least two more years, in 2026 and 2027.
This film festival is one of the most famous in the world for showing independent films. That means movies made outside of big Hollywood studios. These films often have new stories, fresh ideas, and rising talent.
Sundance is working with a big movie theater company in Mexico called Cinépolis. Together, they want to give more people in Mexico a chance to see amazing independent movies and meet filmmakers. Amanda Kelso, CEO of Sundance, said it’s exciting to come back and connect with the Mexican film community.
The main location for the event will be Cinépolis Diana, but other theaters in Mexico City—like Cinépolis Carso, Mítikah, and Oasis Coyoacán—will also show films during the festival.
Alejandro Ramírez, CEO of Cinépolis, said they want these powerful stories to inspire future filmmakers and get more people talking about how movies can change the world.
Last year, Sundance CDMX showed movies like FRIDA, IGUALADA, In the Summers, Love Lies Bleeding, and Malu. They also showed short films made in Mexico, like Al Motociclista no le Cabe la Felicidad en su Traje, Chica de Fábrica, and El Sueño Más Largo Que Recuerdo.
The list of films for the 2025 event hasn’t been shared yet, but fans are already excited to see what’s coming next.
