The Slate Truck is a new electric pickup truck made in the U.S. that will cost less than $20,000 after government discounts. It’s very simple—no touchscreen, no radio, no paint, and no fancy tech. It only comes in gray, fits two people, and goes about 150 miles on one charge. If you want music, you’ll need to bring your own phone and Bluetooth speaker.
This truck is for people who like to build and customize things. It’s meant to be a “blank slate” so that owners can personalize it with add-ons. It’s made from plastic instead of metal, which makes it tougher and cheaper to produce. There’s no paint because that would cost more. Instead, Slate will sell vinyl wrap kits so you can change the color and look at home.
The inside is very basic, but there’s room to upgrade it. There’s a spot to mount your phone or tablet if you want to add your own entertainment. Slate says skipping all the tech makes the truck more reliable since most car problems now come from electronics.
The company wants owners to be able to fix things themselves. There will be videos and a support line called Slate University. For people who prefer help, Slate is partnering with repair shops around the country.
Slate will sell directly to customers online, with delivery or local pickup options. Preorders are only $50, and the trucks should be ready by late 2026.
Slate is trying to change how cars are made and sold. Instead of making lots of different models, they’re only building one simple truck. It’s easy to make, cheap to fix, and made for people who want to do more with less.
