TikTok is adding a new bedtime feature to help teenagers take a break from the app and relax. Starting soon, every night after 10PM, teens will see a special message on their screen with calming activities like guided meditation and soft music. This new feature is called the “wind down” prompt.
Before, the app only played quiet music for teens under 16 to help them rest. Now, it will also show meditation exercises, and it will be available to all users under 18. Even adults can try it if they turn on “Sleep Hours” in their TikTok settings.
Teens can skip the first reminder at 10PM, but the app will show a second message later that is harder to ignore. TikTok says it wants to support better mental health and sleep habits for young users. During testing, they found that 98% of teens under 16 kept the feature on after trying it once.
Even though TikTok might be banned in the United States if it doesn’t sell its U.S. operations by June 19, the company is still working to improve safety. Earlier this year, TikTok added a tool called “Time Away” that lets parents or caregivers block access to the app during certain hours.
These changes are part of TikTok’s effort to show it takes teen safety seriously, especially at night when too much screen time can affect sleep and health.
