What You Need to Know to Vote in the Presidential Election
Voter Registration Deadline for the General Election is October 15, 2024
Our strength comes from making our voices heard, and the most powerful way to do that is by voting. Voting gives us the ability to hold elected officials accountable for the choices they make on our behalf. Latinos continue to be the fastest-growing demographic in the United States (currently about 20% of the US population), and this growth gives us the potential to influence decisions across all levels of government.
By voting, organizing, and standing up for what we believe in, we can create real change with the power of our collective numbers.
From 2016 to 2024, the number of Latinos eligible to vote grew from 27 million to 36 million.
How do I register to vote?
Registration deadlines and rules vary by state. In 42 states and the District of Columbia, you can register online. In 22 states including Washington D.C., you can register to vote and cast your ballot on the same day. If you wish to do this, be prepared to present proof of residency such as a driver’s license or state ID. In some states you may use a paycheck or utility bill with your address on it as proof of residency. Certain states also require same-day registrants to sign an affidavit or swear an oath that they are eligible to vote and haven’t already voted.
To register in New Jersey, you must be:
